Construction Information

Construction news and information:

October 3, 2009 - The road is done. After 8 p.m. tonight, all detours are over and we have our Main Street back.

August 24, 2009 - Walsh & Kelly will be completed with the concrete drives and sidewalks this week. They plan on paving SR8 beginning on Thursday. We are waiting on NIPSCO to get the power hooked up for the traffic signal. The handrails for the sidewalks on Main St. are being made and will be installed as soon as the are completed. Our hope is to get the road opened by Oct. 1st. Access to the businesses on the east side of Main St. will be open from the north end. This schedule is subject to change due to unforeseen problems or weather.

July 10, 2009 - Dyer is currently working on placing the pipe structures and placing the stone base on Sigler Street (8). The plan is to have this area ready for the first layer of asphalt within 2 to 3 weeks. Then, they will start pouring curbs. Walsh & Kelly will soon be adjusting the pipe structures on Main St. We are waiting for Hawk to show up and put in the traffic lights and put up signs. Access to the businesses on the east side of Main St. will be open from the north end. To get to the Town Hall and the Christian Church come from the south end to Church St. This schedule is subject to change due to unforeseen problems or weather.

June 15, 2009 - Walsh & Kelly are planning on paving the next 2 layers on US 231/SR 2 from Jackson St. to Alyea St. They they will pave the surface from the south end to just short of Sigler St. Dyer is currently working on placing the new water line on SR 8. After they finish the water line, Dyer will begin placing the new pipe structures and storm sewer. Access to the businesses on the east side of Main St. will be open from the north end. To get to the Town Hall and the Christian Church come from the south end at Church St to get onto Main Street.
This schedule is subject to change due to unforeseen problems or weather.

May 29, 2009 - (From the State) The next couple weeks we will be working on placing the sidewalks. The businesses on Main St. Between Sigler and Alyea Streets will be affected.
There is going to be a time that you will not be able to use your front door so we can pour the concrete. We will try to make this time period as short as possible. Thanks for for your cooperation.

On June 8th we will be closing down the section on SR 8. Access to the alley behind the businesses on the east side of Main St. will be open off of Main St.

I would ask you who just got sod placed in their front yards not to mow the new sod for a while so the grass has a chance to grow. This schedule is subject to change due to unforeseen problems or weather.

The rumor that we will have the Main street portion open by the fourth of July is not true. We have to have the traffic light functioning and the traffic markings complete before we can open it.

5/8/2009 - Dyer is currently working on excavating the roadbed from Sigler st to Alyea St. They will then place the underdrains and get the stone ready for paving. Walsh and Kelly is finishing up the curb from Jackson St. to Sigler St. Then they will start pouring the driveways and sidewalks. The first 2 layers of asphalt should be done from Sigler St. to Alyea St. in the next 2 weeks. If you got new sod, don't mow the new sod for a while so the grass has a chance to grow.

This schedule is subject to change due to unforeseen problems or weather. Once again to get to the businesses on the east side of Main St. go to the alley access off of SR 8.

4/25/2009 - Walsh & Kelly started laying asphalt today from Jackson St. to south of Sigler St. They will be here next week to continue with the asphalt and then start the curb work. Dyer is currently working placing topsoil on the section we did last year. After they finish that, they will begin working on the pipe structures at the intersection of SR 2 & SR 8 (Sigler St.). H.I.S. will be finishing up removing the contaminated material. We found some old gas tanks in this area, therefore it has slowed our progress.
Once again to get to the businesses on the east side of Main St. go to the alley access off of SR 8.
4/22/2009 - The Post Office's outside drop-off mailbox has been moved to the municipal parking lot (behind the Country Kitchen and the Post Office) for traffic safety purposes.
